During my 15 year long stay in Thailand, most of the time in Chiang Mai, i bought a Chopper and made a lot of trips up in the mountains of the "Golden triangle".

One of the most exciting trips with my bike i did when it was time to do the "Visa-Run" to Malaysia. I went from Chiang Mal - Bangkok - Phuket - Koh Samui - Koh Pangan & back to Chiang Mai. From Phuket i took the Ferry to Penang, leaving the Bike in Phuket.

When in 1992 it was possible to enter Laos i went with the bike from Chiang Mai via Nong Khai to Vientiane. At this time the Friendship-Bridge did not exist, so with the help of some strong fishermen we put the bike on a longtailboat to cross the Mekhong river.

From 1993 it was possible to cross the border at Mae Sai nto former Burma, a real challenge in this time. Together with a friend from the Akha Hilltribe we managed to go quite far until the Shan State where the famous warlord Khun Sa was running his NR. 4 productions. All at once we were faced by a group of the "Shan United Army", they told us quite clearly to turn around, my friend could have passed to visit his relatives but "No Farang allowed", so we went back.

From Oktober 2025 until February 2026 i will for sure stay in Chiang Mai again, so if somebody is interested to make a tour besides the beaten track, be it with a bike, Jeep or aircon Mini Van, feel free to contact me.
